Richard is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon. He specialises in cosmetic surgery, breast surgery and skin cancer surgery. Richard is also a Consultant in NHS Forth Valley. He has been working in Plastic Surgery since 2003 and has undertaken several fellowships developing expertise in certain areas – a Head and Neck Fellowship where he gained experience in surgery of the face, eyelids, ears and nose; a skin cancer fellowship where he trained in all aspects of skin cancer treatment including Mohs’ Surgery; and most recently in breast surgery fine tuning skills in all forms of breast reshaping and reconstruction. Richard is on the GMC Specialist Register as a Plastic Surgeon.
Richard graduated from Glasgow University in 1998 and after undertaking basic surgical training started his career in plastic surgery. He undertook much of his plastic surgery training in the world famous Canniesburn Plastic Surgery unit and in 2004 started a research degree in skin cancer leading to the award of an MD research degree along with the publication of several scientific papers. In 2007 he was appointed to the Pan-Scotland Plastic Surgery training scheme and has spent time in Dundee, Belgium, Detroit and Norwich developing specialist skills in breast surgery, cosmetic surgery and skin cancer surgery. He was successful in obtaining one of the highly sought after Training Interface group fellowships in 2013.
Richard moved to NHS Forth Valley in 2014 to set up breast reconstruction services where he also undertakes skin cancer surgery and provides general reconstructive services. Richard is one of few plastic surgeons trained in oncoplastic breast surgery and even fewer trained in Mohs’ surgery.
